Jasper Business Recovery Program
Non-Repayable Funding
Available funding:
- $10,000 for incorporated businesses (50 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees or less)
*1 full-time employee equals 1.0 FTE; 1 part-time or seasonal employee equals 0.5 FTE
- $5,000 for sole proprietors in the tourism, event and construction industries.
Businesses are encouraged to apply for this program regardless of the status of their business (damaged, destroyed or still standing)
Eligible recipients:
- Businesses who were physically located and operating in Jasper and/or Jasper National Park on July 22, 2024
- Businesses who have a 2024 Municipality of Jasper and/or Parks Canada business license and were operating on and before July 22, 2024
- Businesses with 50 FTE employees or less (*1 full-time employee equals 1.0 FTE; 1 part-time or seasonal employee equals 0.5 FTE)
- Businesses who have a gross annual revenue of less than $5 million dollars and can show a loss of revenue from 2023 and 2024
- Sole proprietors that are part of the construction, tourism industry and/or event and/or wedding industry.
Ineligible recipients (notwithstanding they may otherwise meet the above requirements):
- Non-profits and charitable organizations
- Sole proprietors outside of the tourism, event/wedding and construction industries
- Major banks, private home accommodations and businesses with headquarters outside of Jasper/Jasper National Park
- Businesses with more then 50 FTE employees (*1 full-time employee equals 1.0 FTE; 1 part-time or seasonal employee equals 0.5 FTE)
- Businesses with gross annual revenues greater than $5 million between July 2023 to July 2024
Eligible expenses:
- Expenses incurred between July 22, 2024 and June 30, 2025 related to business re-opening and recovery from the 2024 Jasper Wildfire Complex. These could include but not limited to:
- Non-deferable operating costs needed to maintain operations, such as scheduled debt repayments, utilities, wages and rent
- Costs associated with the re-start of business, including hiring of new staff, professional fees, replacement of destroyed and/or damages equipment or inventory that is uninsured, and cleaning/remediation
- Planning and other fees associated with preparing for business restart
Ineligible expenses:
- Expenses incurred prior to July 22, 2024 or after June 30, 2025
- Expenses already paid or expected to be paid for by other federal, provincial, non-profit disaster relief funding, or covered by insurance
- Purchases of buildings or land
- Tax payments
- Paying off debt (other than regularly scheduled repayments) or repayments to other government programs such as CEBA or RRRF
- Dividends to shareholders
- Other costs deemed unreasonable for maintaining the ongoing operation of the business
- Any expenses related to the personal property of the business owners such as (but not limited to) houses, evacuation costs and/or vehicle expenses
- Miscellaneous expenses are not considered an eligible category and will be removed from consideration if submitted
The determination as to what constitutes an eligible recipient or an eligible expense lies within the sole discretion of Community Futures West Yellowhead, acting reasonably. All decisions as to eligible recipients or expenses are final.
